Oh, right, suddenly they have the balls to protest "occupation". There is no doubt that these protests are largely instigated by Iran, manipulating people who have been brainwashed by state television for most if not all of their lives. It is interesting that people kept in ignorance and brainwashed by a merciless dictator, then brainwashed by bigoted thugs have the same reaction to the US as western leftists... Most Iraqi men must realize that it is good to live in a world where there is no threat of having electrical wires hooked up to your scrotum. One should be grateful for that if nothing else.

All the papers who criticized the war as unnecessary and that it would result in hundreds of thousands of Iraqi deaths now look like the appeasing, amoral hypocrites I always knew they were. What is left to the Independent and the Guardian and the SF Chronicle but to exaggerate the looting? What are they saying? That the Iraqi people should have been left under a dictator rather than this? Maybe what they want is for the US to handle it the way their beloved Fidel or Saddam would have. Is that what Susan Sarandon wants? Natalie Maines? Andrew Greeley? Michael Moore?

Again, please note how hypocritical it is to claim that you care for Iraqis while preferring that they should still live in fear of torture and summary execution. “I love you and therefore I would prefer that you live in fear of being raped, tortured, and murdered than of being killed in an allied war for your freedom” just doesn’t cut it.

It is a vicious slur of an article, the kind that vengeful leftists who have once again shown themselves to be fools write. I post the link above to provide the context for this. Fiske describes the looting in Baghdad in terms that make it sound like the worst thing Iraqis have ever had to face. The idea here is that by freeing them America has unleashed a holocaust. This from a man who concedes that Saddam Hussein is “evil”.

So, get this: in a little while when order is restored the Iraqi people will have the opportunity to become fully democratic and will probably have one of the wealthiest societies in the world. But peace protesters will be in the streets again today marching against the war that has gained the release from a murderous dictator. But they care for the Iraqi people while we warmongers do not.
Please consider the definition of the word hypocrite.

Please understand something: ALL anti-war protesters are liars. This is not about the Iraqi people, never has been. This about politics and are you willing to oppose the Bush Administration no matter what, right or wrong. The liberals were always willing to sacrifice the Iraqis to score points against the right. This about having a point of view, an aesthetic, that you are married to and will never ever divorce. This is about painting all who support just wars as evil, not because of the facts at hand but because the willingness to fight for what is yours opposes the aesthetic. This is about the fact that Americans are largely wealthy, healthy and “live varied and interesting lives” to quote the line of a character in the excellent movie Blackhawk Down, and so many of those around the world protesting do not. The Wealth of Others Gives Rise to Intense Resentment could be the life story of every single leftist ever born.

Watching Stephen Cole on the BBC this morning the term that kept coming to me most strongly was “damage control”, Cole seemed to be doing his best to make sure that it was clear to the world how freeing Iraq from a murderous dictatorship was a bad thing. When there is news of an erroneous shooting or a dead coalition soldier the man is the picture of smug satisfaction, he aims it at the camera and every word, every nuance, every question to reporters in the field tries to convince the world what an absolute disaster democracy is for the Iraqi people.

Let’s get the myth out of the way, the one that the peace protesters were or are in anyway concerned for the wellbeing of the Iraqi people. At best this thing was a trade-off between bloody war or a lifetime of hopeless terror wherein hope lay only in asylum far from home. Concern for Iraq, real concern, would at the very least have had a hard time discerning the wisest course, there were would be no black and white sanctimony, no easy condemnations, no screaming protesters. Let me make this absolutely clear: the peace protests were never about concern for Iraqi sovereignty nor were they for the rule of law nor were they borne of a humanitarian concern for the Iraqi people. This is evidenced in such articles as this in the hyper-leftist Guardian
The Guardian treats the rescue from Saddam as the worst thing that could ever have happened to the Iraqis when in truth it is the worst thing that could ever have happened to rabid ultra-liberals. The pictures of rejoicing Iraqis are a solid kick in the gonads for people who put their politics above truth, the gleeful Iraqis are a testimony against the lies of the antiwar movement, against the hypocrisy of the papers like the Guardian. Please note that in the end of the article linked to above the author, Julian Barnes, admits to being a hypocrite.
